“Death Valley,” “War Eagle,” “Roll Tide,” “Pig Sewee,” “Playing between the hedges.” These are some of the most often used phrases in reference to College Football in the south. All due respect to T.I, but College Football has been unofficially declared “The King of The South” for decades now.
At a University where the only football history is Chiefs WR Albert Wilson (Yes, alumni include other professional’s, but he’s clearly the most notable) and being named as the Worst College Football Program in the Country, you wouldn’t be surprised if Panther Family crowned T.I. as king.
Personally, in bits and pieces of halves, I have probably witnessed a total of 5 Georgia State Football games, and that’s more than most students can say.
I don’t like disappointment. Growing up as an Atlanta Sports fan, watching the Braves, Michael Vick and Joe Johnson didn’t help much either, so giving my time to watch a program win ONE game since the time I was a 17 year-old isn’t the best passion I should take part in. I don’t like knowing the fact some people are making six figures, when I feel I deserve six figures more than they do. So watching a coach who was just “good enough” at his old job and has mirrored the same pattern at Georgia State, might not keep me content about not making six figures a year myself.
All-in-all, as the Football preview is being prepared and the players return to practice, I’m pretty excited to see the Georgia State Panthers play Football in 2015.
The offense already had a stellar passing game last season, thanks to Nick Arbuckle, and now with a more solid running back foundation from pre-season practices, the passing attack should only become more lethal this season.
The worst defense I have seen in my LIFE from the 2014 squad has another year under their belts and some veteran junior college and UAB transfers, thankfully. So just maybe they can prevent an unacceptable average of 43 points scored on them every week this year, just maybe.
We get one more year to see the record-breaking kicker Will Lutz , and the big three on offense of Arbuckle, Donovan Harden and Joel Ruiz. Three of the four mentioned seniors were named to the preseason All-Sun Belt teams and have gardened attention from national scouts as well this offseason. Harden is determined to top all of Albert Wilson's records, while Ruiz hits the field for the first time after being mentioned by Mel Kiper Jr.
Seeing practice up close, most of the teammates appear to like each other, which is always a good thing, and the team looks motivated to prove America wrong in 2015, that they are not the worst College Football program in the nation. So here’s to not only Basketball, but Georgia State Football for showing up in Primetime moments in 2015.
