Mary Mary famously sung nobody told them “the road would be easy.” One would hope someone has sung the same song or at least told RJ Hunter something along those lines after his tough debut as a professional basketball player.
Playing in front of 10, 215 fans, the 28th overall pick and Georgia State’s all-time leading scorer went scoreless in a 100-82 loss against the Utah Jazz in Summer League action.
In a recent interview with Celtics.com, Hunter described his life as a coach’s son, stating that he would often wake up in the middle of the night to join his father watching film, which he believed helped his on the court awareness.
Although RJ didn’t score one point Monday night, his awareness did shine however by compiling a total of 3 steals.
The Celtics next Summer League matchup is 7:00 tonight against no.2 overall pick Jahlil Okafor and the Philadelphia 76ers.
The great news for Hunter and his connection with the Mary Mary song, is that the gospel duo won 3 Grammies, 2 American Music Awards, an NAACP Image and BET Award. So while yes, the road might not be easy, it certainly doesn’t mean it won’t be successful.
